Wycombe Mind Winter Wrap Up
Spending our winter in lockdown has been tough for so many of us. Not only were we handling the shorter daylight hours and freezing temperatures, we were also facing tough restrictions on our day-to-day lives.
At Wycombe Mind we were fortunate enough to be able to remain open during this lockdown and have kept our day sessions running throughout winter. Our members have been bracing snow and ice to get here and we have all massively helped each other to get through this tough time.
In December we held our first blended AGM, with members attending in person and via Zoom. The main topic of discussion was the change of Wycombe Mind becoming Wycombe Mind Ltd. in January 2021. Many good ideas were put forward and members at the centre were fortunate enough to enjoy some light snacks at the end.
A couple of weeks later we then hosted our socially distanced Christmas lunch. Members were spread across three rooms, the DJ GiGi room, the ABBA room and the Spinning Jenny room! We enjoyed a full Christmas roast and our team came up with some brilliant Covid-19 secure games for everyone to enjoy. This definitely lifted all our spirits and really got us in the festive mood.
In January the news of another lockdown was hard for many of us to hear. At Wycombe Mind we were determined to help people to get through it and we worked hard on our Creative Outreach project to help those at Mind and in the community who were struggling at this time. At the centre we braced the cold and layered up to make sure we could keep our services running. Even snow couldn’t stop Julia from firing up the BBQ!
We got our members involved with this years’ Time to Talk Day with plenty of posters and games around to encourage conversations. On Shrove Tuesday we celebrated with Time to Flip (a pancake) Day! Plenty of pancakes were flipped and tossed successfully, with only one or two ending up on the floor!
As Spring began we enjoyed seeing our hard work planting bulbs in beginning to pay off with plenty of new buds and flowers blooming at the centre. To celebrate the beginning of spring, we enjoyed an Easter Lunch at the centre. Hills Café provided us with delicious hot roast dinner and our team worked tirelessly to make sure the lunch was safe and ran smoothly. The members had a go at a very tough Easter Quiz and Echo the Easter Bunny hopped from room to room delivering chocolate eggs to anyone who guessed her name right! Some beautiful sunny weather also helped to lift everyone’s spirits and we are looking forward to enjoying more activities as restrictions begin to ease.
